Prayer of St. Vncent de Paul

Tender God, refuge of the poor, You filled Vincent de Paul with the strength of the apostles to work for the salvation of the poor and the instruction of the clergy. May we who follow the example of his life be driven by unceasing charity to continue the mission of Your Son in the world. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

St Vincent founded three organizations, the first in 1617: the Confra-ternities of Charity, which continues today under the title of the Internationa/ Association of Charities  In 1625 he founded the Congregation of the Mission or Vincentian Priests, a community of priests and brothers whose purpose was to evangelize the poor and help in the formation and education of priests. In 1633 St. Vincent and St. Louise de Marillac formed the Daughters of Charity to honor Christ by serving him corporally and spiritually in the persons of the poor, the sick, the imprisoned, and others in need. In 1833 Antoine Fredric Ozanam and 5 fellow students along with their mentor. Emmanuel Bailly, formed the Society of St. Vincent de Paul picking St. Vincent as their Patron Saint. With the help of Sister Rosalie Rendu they begin their quest to help the poor in the local community. By visiting them where they lived they were able to better understand the needs of each individual jfamily, a practice we continue today. The Society has now grown to over 800,00 members in 46,000 local Conferences in 153 countries around the world.
